Accounting Specialist

(Lynbrook, NY)

Janel is seeking an Accounting Specialist at Lynbrook NY. This is a hands-on accounting role reporting to Janel’s corporate finance team. Janel’s corporate accounting team members have strong customer service skills and are comfortable managing Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable transactions and payments while collaborating closely with internal and external resources at our stations, at our agent locations around the world and with our external customers and suppliers. Janel’s Accounting Specialist will manage AP transactions and payments for our network of offices while supporting the needs of Corporate Finance Team.


  • 5+ years of accounting experience, in a high-growth environment
  • Freight and logistics industry experience as an Accounting Professional
  • Strong knowledge of internal controls and generally acceptable accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Proven success working in accounting operations, including reporting, collections, foreign agent settlements and AP
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Capable of rapidly building credibility both within and outside the company

Regional Director - NY/NJ

Janel is seeking a Regional Director for the NY/NJ area. This is an entrepreneurial leadership role with ultimate responsibility for the growth of our JFK and Edison stations. Janel’s Regional Directors are business development focused leaders who understand that Janel’s future is built on extraordinary customer experience, internal talent development and organic growth. Janel’s stations provide a full range of supply chain services supported by a back office team that includes product, pricing, accounting, finance, HR and IT services. 

Janel’s Regional Directors are members of our senior leadership team, working closely with top executives to map our future. As a fully engaged ambassador for the JFK and Edison teams, our directors demonstrate the highest standards of business ethics and live Janel’s core values. The position reports to the VP of Operations. This is a unique opportunity to build on the foundation of two industry leading business units and a team with global reach, differentiated by our Janeler reputation for a local, personal touch.  

Responsibilities to include but are not limited to:

  • Mentor and train Station Managers to meet and exceed budgets and metrics Strengthen and expand station focus on customer relationships, retention and expansion

  • Foster and enhance the delivery of the stations’ core service offerings

  • Collaborate with Station Managers & sales teams to drive industry leading organic growth Mentor Station Managers to develop & recruit staff, instilling a culture of open & frequent communication, operational excellence & customer obsession

  • Identify opportunities to optimize operational & financial performance and maximize productivity

  • Participate in yearly Senior Team strategy sessions to map the future of Janel

Position Requirements:

  • Extensive experience with Customs brokerage, domestic and inbound/outbound freight operations

  • Enthusiastic, persistent, results oriented strategic thinker with extensive experience in P&L ownership Experience negotiating pricing and contracts with customers, prospects & vendors

  • Customer focused with proven history of exceeding customer expectations

  • Sales focused with demonstrated ability to work with others to target, pitch and close new business  Strong MS Office products skill set / CargoWise experience a plus

  • Ability to lead and inspire a team, fostering an innovative, inclusive & positive work environment

  • Skilled communicator / presenter able to interact effectively at multiple levels

  • Ability to identify & recruit talent and to guide, train and develop the company’s future leaders
