Open Positions

Import Operations Agent - Atlanta

Processes inbound shipments on an A-Z basis with zero defects or rework. Consistently achieve operational excellence while providing excellent customer service and communication to all involved parties

Essential Duties and Responsibilities including but not limited to the following;

1. Strict adherence to established policies and guidelines of the company & import department

SOP with focus on constant flow of communication, accurate data entry, timely billing & vendor payables. To eliminate rework, always double checking the work, proactively seek assistance as needed to avoid unnecessary errors. Process shipments right the first time and every time.

2. Support departmental performance initiatives and help maintain positive working environment 3. Ensure all email communications are responded the same day

4. Receives documents and opens files via CargoWise checking and confirming incoterms for each shipment

5. Prepare ISF filings and notify customers / agents the same day and follow up until BOL match is achieved

6. Examines invoices, bills of lading and other shipping documents at the time of receipt for completeness to ensure accurate and timely data entry submission to customs and PGAs without delays.

7. Examines arrival notices for accuracy and processes check or online payments to authorized vendors. If vendors are not set up in CargoWise, forward the written request to the import manager for setup.

8. Follows up with domestic/overseas agents for customers, to assist and resolve

operational questions or problems and constantly strive toward meeting deadlines to deliver results driven service

9. Contact CBP and PGA officials to effect release of incoming freight and resolve clearance delays if needed.

10. Handle all modes of transport with seeking assistance from the import manager when necessary

11. Suggest HS codes and duty rates, confirm with the import manager for accuracy

12. Declare accurate foreign currency conversion rates based on invoice details presented by the shipper/importer

13. Notifies consignees / shippers / overseas agents on clearance delays and keeping them updated in a timely manner always within the same day

14. Ensure OBL is received in good order before sending out delivery orders or allowing cargo to be picked up and delivered. Advise customer/agent of delays and additional costs where possible and necessary.

15. Obtain POD within 48 hours of delivery completion

16. Prepare customer invoices on daily basis and expense estimate costs correctly where applicable.

17. Resolve any billing or vendor payment issues the same day as received

18. Issues credits if needed once approved by the Import Manager and Station Manager within 24 hours of approval and send out credit note as appropriate.

19. Upload all necessary documents to E-Docs tab in CargoWise and enter file notes in Cargo Wise as applicable

20. In case of need for PSC, notify and get approval from the import manager, then complete necessary amendments, enter detailed notes in the system, print out acknowledgement email and hand off the file folder to the import manager for tracking and follow up.

21. Keeps track of hours worked and submit overtime request with justification for doing so, to the Import Manager for approval before working any over time.

22. Attend and participate in office training, department training and/or CBP, PGA workshops as requested and approved to increase working knowledge.

Job Specifications: Experience: Minimum 3 years or more of experience in customs brokerage and freight forwarding.

Education: H.S. diploma or equivalency. Minimum 2 years college experience preferred.

Knowledge: Complete knowledge of local customs, and port procedures for both air and sea-freight, rail, trucking & warehousing. Computer and personal computer literacy preferred.

Work Hours: Normal reporting hours are 8:00 am – 5:00 pm Monday through Friday, however, Additional time may be required on a daily basis as well as weekends and holidays to satisfy customer and internal needs. Flex time may be available.

Complexity Of Work: Must be able to perform under pressure and be directly responsible for all Import functions on files assigned.

Strong written and oral communication skills are required

Must be able to read and interpret documents such as operating instructions and procedure manuals.

Must be able to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest and commissions, percentages, area,

Weight and currency conversions and apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry required for the position.

Must operate with a team concept and spirit to assist in the coordination of inbound freight, break-bulk, broker turn-over as needed.

Must respond to all inquiries the same day as received to keep communications channels open.

Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook is required.

Janel is seeking a VP or Director of Innovation to lead customer and back office automation initiatives that will drive an extraordinary service experience for our customers and free up our talent to optimize our customer’s supply chains. Senior Internal Auditor - JFK Airport Area
