Senior Internal Auditor - JFK Airport Area

Janel is seeking a Senior Internal Auditor to lead the internal audit of the company’s internal controls and to assist management with external audits. The Senior Internal Auditor will lead the documentation of internal controls and policies, the testing of those policies and the on-time submission of responses to external auditor requests while ensuring Janel adheres to the highest degree of professional and financial standards.

Reporting to Janel Group’s President at our JFK location, with dotted line reporting to Janel Corporation’s Controller, the Senior Internal Auditor will work closely with Janel’s Finance Team and Station Managers to test current processes and help implement best practices that ensure Janel’s competitive position in the market. Responsibilities to include, but are not limited to:

Plan, lead and participate in internal and external audits of Janel’s financial & business processes

Lead documentation & testing of controls; ensure adequate resourcing of audits & on-time, accurate completion

Lead due diligence on potential acquisitions and implementation of JGI finance processes post-acquisition

Provide updates on status of audits and create audit update memos and reports

Lead site risk assessments, ensuring the testing of key controls at all branch and corporate locations

Develop and execute on corrective action plans that help management appropriately address issues

Assist management with the periodic financial audit of the company’s records and reporting

Work closely with external auditors to test and implement latest guidance and to process improve Janel systems

Lead the coordination and completion of follow up items identified in management and external auditor review

Work closely with station teams to test controls and to develop and implement corrective action plans

Plan and participate in annual Risk Assessment and annual audit plan

Lead & participate in special projects, including data mining initiatives, as deemed necessary by the VP of Finance

Position Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is preferred; MBA, CPA, or other advanced certification or degree a plus

5+ years’ work experience in accounting, finance, due diligence and leading audits; COSO, GAAP, SOX experience

Intermediate knowledge of Word, Excel & PowerPoint; CargoWise experience a plus

Understanding of customs brokerage & international freight forwarding industries

Skilled communicator & high energy motivator

Travel to all Janel current and future locations

Accounting Specialist

(Lynbrook, NY)

This is a hands-on accounting role reporting to Janel’s corporate finance team. Janel’s corporate accounting team members have strong customer service skills and are comfortable managing Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable transactions and payments while collaborating closely with internal and external resources at our stations, at our agent locations around the world and with our external customers and suppliers. Janel’s Accounting Specialist will manage AP transactions and payments, AR transactions and receipts for our network of offices while supporting the needs of the Corporate Finance Team throughout the U.S.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to: • Maintain and adhere to appropriate internal controls and accounting policies as outlined by the Assistant Controller • Manage A/P transactions and payments for vendors/agents including general and administrative expenses by reconciling statements while ensuring proper coding, approvals, verification of charges and ensuring payments are disbursed within agreed terms • Manage accounts receivable collections within agreed credit terms and ensuring receipts are posted timely • Responsible for credit application/report review and recommending credit limit and terms • Continual review of customer accounts to ensure immediate communication of all credit risk with appropriate escalation • Communicate accruals needed on monthly basis • Facilitate resolution of charge discrepancies between our sites and vendors and/or customers timely • Respond to all internal and external inquiries timely • Escalate systematic/repetitive processing issues with suggested process improvements • Track credits owed to the company and ensure all credits are properly applied • Maintain organization data related to accounting and update as needed • Support and grow key relationships between Janel and its suppliers and customers • Analyze the company’s spending, isolating cost drivers and making recommendations for cost savings • Escalate challenges and significant changes with accounts payable and accounts receivable balances • Collaborate with the Accounting management team to suggest process improvement initiatives that automate processes and streamline procedures, eliminating manual steps and enhancing capacity

Position Requirements: • 5+ years of accounting experience, in a high-growth environment • Freight and logistics industry experience as an Accounting Professional • Strong knowledge of internal controls and generally acceptable accounting principles (GAAP) • Proven success working in accounting operations, including reporting, collections, foreign agent settlements and AP • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel • Capable of rapidly building credibility both within and outside the company • Experience working inside a matrix organization

Janel is seeking a Regional Director for the NY/NJ area. This is an entrepreneurial leadership role with ultimate responsibility for the growth of our JFK and Edison stations.
